Mid Nine Weeks
We have come to the mid point of the second nine weeks. You should have gotten your child's progress report at test score analysis night. If you did not please contact the school for a copy.
Alg 1: We are continuing work with equations. We have moved from one and two step equations toe multi step equations and inequalities. We will continue going through and computer generated program called Algebra School that takes us through lessons with examples and practice problems. I feel we are making good progress.
Geo: We just finished up working on slope and linear equations. We struggled with this a little so we had to take a little more time that planned. We will frequently review this concept to make sure we don't forget. We are starting chapter four which deals with triangle rules.
Consumer Math: Just finished up our unit on food and math. We worked on calculating calories from fat grams, buring calories, and counting calories. We will start chapter 7 Managing a Household next week.
PE: We are back in the gym and back to our normal routine.

Oct 24th-28th
Alg I- We are working on multi step equations this week and since this is a new concept for us we will be taking our time to make sure we master this before we move on. So much of what we do from this point on requires a mastery of this concept so we can't go on until then. Students are working hard!
Geo- We are finding the slope of lines on a coordinate plane and writing equations for lines on a coordintate plan. We will continue this for the rest of this week and possibly the first of next week if we need a little more time.
Consumer Math- We are about half way done with our budget project. Students have chosen a location they want to live and their career choice. From this information we have calculated their estimated monthly net pay. We will are working on our monthly budget based on our calculations.
PE: We will be finishing up our Choosing the Best abstinence course this week and will resume regular PE in the gym next week.
Happy Halloween!

2nd Nine Weeks
Alg 1: We are getting into new material! We are currently working with two step and multi step equations. We will spend a great deal of time on these concepts since they are a very key part of everything students will do from this point on in math.
Geometry: We are working with the cooridinate plane. Finding the slopes of lines and graphing equations are the two big concepts we are working on.
Consumer Math: We are starting our Budgeting unit. During this unit we will explore careers, career locations, monthly salaries, and monthly budgets. This will be a very beneficial until and will cover much of the time between now and Christmas.
PE: We have begun our two week. abstinence class. You will be seeing nightly worksheets to complete with your child. Please sign the sheets so your child can get credit for them.

Weekly Update 9/23
Alg 1: We spent most of the week preparing for our test that we took today (test grades are on Infinite Campus). Next week we will to over the test together and make sure we clear up any questions. We will also be starting chapter 3 which will cover equations. We will work on one and two step equations. We will go a little deeper into this concept than we have in the previous years so some of this material will be new. Most of the assignments will be done in class so I can help them with any problems that may come up.
Geometry: We took our chapter test and went over it the first two days of the week (test grades are on Infinite Campus). They rest of the week has been Plan testing and the Career Fair. Next week we will begin chapter 3 working with line pairs and angle pairs. The first part of the chapter will reviewing concepts they have already had so we will move through it rather quickly I hope.
Consumer Math: We spent most of the week working on "Thank You" letters to the staff at FCB for coming and working with us. We reviewed banking concepts and took a quiz over thoses concepts (quiz grades are on Infinite Campus). Next week we will begin doing book work over the concepts FCB talked to us about (writing checks, check registers, credit cards and debit cards).
PE: We didn't get to do much in PE this week due to Plan Testing and the Career Fair that were both held in the gym. Next week is our last week of PE for this group. We will do various activites each day. An Army repersentitive is coming Tuesday to do some activities with us that should be fun!

Weekly Update and Preview
Algebra 1- We moved very quickly through chapter two this week since it was reviewing a concept (integers) that we are pretty comfortable with. We will be doing the chapter review Monday and Tuesday of next week and taking the Chapter 2 Test on Wednesday. The week will end with the introduction to chapter three which involves solving equations.
Geometry - We have completed chapter 1 and done our review. We will take our test next Monday. We will spend Tuesday and Wednesday reviewing and preparing for the Plan test that all 10th graders will be taking on Thursday and Friday of next week.
Consumer Math - We were very fortunate this week to have FCB come to our classroom and introduce us to the banking system. We learned about the history of banks, accounts, loans, and pay checks over a four day period of time. The information was presented very well and I believe will be very beneficial to the students. Next week we will begin putting this new information to work as we begin chapter 10 on banking and investing.
PE - We are down to our final two weeks of PE before this group moves on to their next rotation class. It was good to see some of you at back to school night. As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me anytime.

One Month Down
Alg 1- We began working on fuctions and tables this week which is a new concept for the students but they have done very well. Right now we are working on the Chapter 1 review clearing up any questions that we come across. There will be a Chapter 1 test on Wednesday September 8th.
Geometry- This week in geometry we discussed angles and different types of triangles. This has mainly been a review but new material is just around the corner. Next week we will focus on polygons and spend some time on area and perimeter of shapes. By the end of the week we will be ready to start reviewing chapter 1 preparing for our chapter one test sometime around the middle of the following week.
Consumer Math- We have had a very eye opening week in consumer math discussing interest rates, mortgages, and cost of living issues. I am working with First Community Bank organizing a series of lessons where they will come in to our classroom and give us a more in depth view of banking. This will be very beneficial for the students.
PE- We are in the middle of our Choosing the Best Path program conducted by Shay Lock. She is providing some great information. We will finish up this program next Thursday and regular PE will resume the following week.

Weekly Update 8/22-8/26
Alg 1- We have had a very productive week! Most of the week was spent on problem solving strategies. We learned how to dissect word problems and take out the information that was given to us and put it in formulas to solve the problem. Temperature, profit, and distance were the main focus. Next week we will begin working with functions and how to graph them. This will be new material so most of the work will be done here at school where I can help them with any questions that they have.
Geometry- We are moving through chapter one. This week we spent a lot of time working with the midpoint formula and the distance formula for points on a coordinate plane. Next week we will start looking at the different classifications of angles. We will also begin using protractors to measure angles. I have all the supplies here so there is no need to go out and by a protractor.
Consumer Math- We are learning a lot of new material that is going to be very beneficial to the students in the future. Next week we will begin working on mortgages, interest rates, and bank accounts. We are very fortunate to have a local bank coming in to discuss these topics with us. This should be a very eye opening week!!
